Conservation Advisory Council
The Town of Boston Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) is currently seeking new members. We are a group of like-minded residents, whose task is to advise the Town Board on conservation and quality of life issues in the town.
The Town of Boston Conservation Advisory Council is committed to sharing knowledge and resources around conservation and the environment in order to preserve the beauty and natural resources of the Town of Boston. In addition to advising the Town Board on conservation-related issues, our Council organizes a number of events and educational opportunities for the greater community, including:
- Youth Fishing Derby - Our annual Fishing Derby for Youth is traditionally held the Saturday before Mother's Day in May. Youth aged 15 and under are invited to participate. The event is held at the fishing ponds at the Boston Town Park.
- Snowshoes and Snowmen- In late Winter, families are invited to join us at the Boston Town Park for a snowshoeing adventure. Snowshoes are available for check-out for free. Enjoy the serenity of winter at your own pace or participate in a scavenger hunt around the park. Afterwards, warm up inside the Town Community Room with a hot cup of cocoa and snacks.
- Local Environmental Awareness Fair (L.E.A.F.) - Spearheaded by the Town of Boston Conservation Advisory Council with support from Friends of the CAC, L.E.A.F. exists to educate the greater community on conservation, wildlife, and the environment. It’s a great opportunity for local organizations to highlight the many people, organizations, and features of our local environment that make our community a wonderful place to live! The fair is held annually on a Saturday in September.
- Additionally, we have sponsored invasive species management workshops, educational programming at local schools, fish stocking, tree planting, and more.
we are always interested in comments and suggestions from Town residents. Please address those directly to the Conservation Advisory Council, at the above address.
From the Natural Resources Conservation Service, US Department of Agriculture:
"Just as they do on the farm, conservation practices on nonagricultural land can help increase food and shelter for birds and other wildlife, control soil erosion, reduce sediment in waterways, conserve water and improve water quality, inspire a stewardship ethic, and beautify the landscape.'Backyard Conservation' shows you how conservation practices that help conserve and improve natural resources on agricultural land across the country can be adapted for use around your home. These practices help the environment and can make your yard more attractive and enjoyable. Most backyard conservation practices are easy to use. America's farmers and ranchers have been using these practices successfully for decades.
Whether you have rural acreage, a suburban yard, or a city lot, you can help protect the environment and add beauty and interest to your surroundings..."
